Guadalajara runs on America/Mexico_City: UTC-6 year-round. Mexico abolished daylight saving time for most of the country on October 30, 2022. Jalisco state — where Guadalajara is located — is not a border state and does not observe DST, so the city has run on permanent Central Standard Time since late 2022. Guadalajara shares this fixed UTC-6 clock with Mexico City and most of central Mexico.

The city is capital of Jalisco state and home to around 5 million people in its metropolitan area.[3] It sits at 1,566 metres elevation, which keeps temperatures moderate year-round and gives the city’s days a particular quality of light that painters and photographers have noted for generations.

The city is home to mariachi culture — though modern mariachi is considered to have originated in Cocula, a town in Jalisco state — and sits close to the Jalisco heartland of tequila production, centered on the town of Tequila 65 km to the northwest.[5] Both are bound up with timing in ways that matter culturally. Mariachi bands perform on a schedule organized around celebrations, not fixed hours. Tequila production follows harvest cycles tied to the agave plant’s seven-to-fourteen-year growing period, a patience that places it outside ordinary clock time entirely.

World Cup 2026 and Guadalajara’s global moment

Guadalajara will host FIFA World Cup 2026 matches at Estadio Akron.[2] For visitors arriving from North America and Europe, the Central Time zone means that evening kickoffs at 7pm local time land at 8pm Eastern, 1am in London, and 9am in Tokyo. The city’s hospitality infrastructure, already well-developed for business tourism and international conferences, is expanding to meet the tournament’s demands.

At 20 degrees north latitude, Guadalajara has limited seasonal daylight variation. Sunrise in June arrives around 6:15am. In December it comes closer to 7:15am. The reliable light and consistent temperatures make outdoor evening events comfortable across most of the year.
