Le Robert is one of Martinique’s main fishing communities, on the windward Atlantic coast where the trade winds keep conditions choppy and productive for fishing. The village of boat yards and fish markets runs on America/Martinique time: UTC-4, year-round, the same clock as Le Lamentin across the island.

Fishing in Le Robert follows the most ancient time logic: tides, season, and the behavior of the fish. Boats go out before dawn and the morning market on the dock happens while the catch is still fresh, around 6-7am. By late morning, the market day has largely ended. Martinique’s eastern coast catches the Atlantic swell and trade winds that the western, Caribbean-facing coast does not.
