Likisá (also Liquiçá) is a coastal town west of Dili, Timor-Leste’s capital, on the northern coast facing the Ombai Strait. The city runs on Asia/Dili time: UTC+9, year-round. No daylight saving.

Likisá was the site of a massacre on April 6, 1999, during the violence surrounding East Timor’s independence referendum. Besi Merah Putih militia, supported by Indonesian soldiers and police, attacked the parish church where refugees had sought shelter.[4] The date is a fixed point in the country’s reckoning of its own history.
