Komsomolsk-on-Amur is in the Asia/Vladivostok timezone (VLAT/UTC+10), a fixed offset with no daylight saving since Russia abolished it in 2014.

Komsomolsk-on-Amur was literally built by young Communist volunteers, Komsomol members, beginning on 10 May 1932,[3] on the Amur River in what was then roadless taiga. The city became a major Soviet industrial center for aircraft and submarine manufacturing.[4] It runs on Vladivostok Time, UTC+10, year-round, no daylight saving since 2014.

The city shares its timezone with Khabarovsk to the south, both in the Khabarovsk Krai region. At 51 degrees north, Komsomolsk has significant seasonal daylight variation: nearly 17 hours in summer, under 8 in winter. The permanent UTC+10 setting means that summer evenings are bright until past 9pm, but the clock doesn’t advance to capture additional evening light.

The industrial heritage creates a 24-hour work culture. Aircraft factories and shipyards don’t shut down entirely with darkness, and the city grew up around the logic of shifts rather than solar time. The Sukhoi aircraft manufacturing plant here is one of Russia’s most significant defense facilities.

Komsomolsk is accessible by the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) railway, an epic Soviet construction project that reached a symbolic “golden spike” junction in September 1984 but was not officially declared fully complete until 1991.[5] The BAM runs parallel to the Trans-Siberian further north. Until August 2018, train schedules displayed Moscow Time throughout — a 7-hour mental conversion for local residents at UTC+10 — before Russian Railways switched to local time system-wide.[6]
